Hello, my name is Keely Houk, and I am an aspiring artist, writer, graphic designer, photographer, storyteller, comic writer, musician, art historian, and innovator. That sounds like a lot, and trust me, it is.
I am majoring in English, Art and Art History, and minoring in Music at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and intend to graduate in 2017. Despite my overtly broad enthusiasm of different mediums and educational studies, I have decided to focus on graphic design, illustration, and creative story telling. This came as an epiphany when I was studying abroad in Florence in fall 2015; I specifically chose the place to internationally study graphic design and animation, as well as to be immersed in the rich culture of the country- there I finally came to a conclusion that I am most passionate about working with online programs to create intensely visual art- whether that be corporate design projects, logo redesigns, comic strips, or visually animated pieces.
I have since been working on multiple projects. In Fall 2015 I designed a product for Seattle Academy for an innovations conference, as well as a reimagined logo and corporate book for the “Washington Redskins,” which I renamed the “Washington Firebirds”. I am also an ongoing cartoonist of The Point News, my home university’s newspaper, as well as a fervent enthusiast for Animation. In spring of 2015, my short animated film, “Horns” a horror thriller about a dream and murder, won 2nd place for Outstanding work by a Sophomore Student. I have also been published in Avatar for many of my short stories. I am currently adapting one of my many works into a graphic novel.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. I’d love to hear from you.
